Adding data graphics
Optionally,
you can remove, modify, or apply new data graphics to shapes in the
Visio diagram by using the Data Graphics menu on the Data tab in the
Display Data group, as shown in Figure 5.
When you apply data graphics to the shapes, they can affect the
layout of the shapes in your diagram because Data Graphics are
themselves Visio shapes, and therefore, as you apply Data Graphics, you
may need to move shapes or modify the position of the Data Graphic
relative to the shape by clicking the Edit Data Graphic option on the
Data Graphics menu. This would affect all shapes that use that Data
Graphic. Alternatively, you modify the position of individual Data
Graphics by clicking the Data Graphic on the drawing and moving it as
you can with any Visio shape.
You can add a legend to your diagram to help users understand the
meaning of your Data Graphics. To add a legend to your shape, use the
Insert Legend split button on the Data tab. Automatically, all Data
Graphics that are associated with shapes on your diagram are added to
the legend. The legend is also a Visio shape, so you can change text,
format, and position.
When
you have completed the diagram, you can save it to a SharePoint
document library and render it with Visio Services so that it can be
used as a basis for your dashboards.
You can transfer data between drawings displayed in a Visio Web
Access Web Part and other web parts. For example, you can create a Web
Part page with a library app web part that displays a filtered list of
Visio drawing files and connects to a Visio Access Web Part. As users
click the double arrow icon to the left of the Visio file name, the
diagram in the Visio file is displayed in the Visio Web Access Web Part.
To add a web part connection, place the page in edit mode and then
click the down arrow to the right of the web part title, point to
Connections, and then click the connection option you want, as shown in
Figure 6.
Note
In this particular example, the browser UI allows you to pick only
one property. Additional properties can be passed between the two web
parts by using SharePoint Designer to configure the web part connection.
There are five Visio Web Access Web Part connection options:
-
Send Shape Data To
. When a shape is selected in the web diagram, data
from the shape data fields are sent to the specified web part. By
default, the following items are sent:
To specify additional shape data items to send, open the web part
tool pane. Type the labels of the shape data items as a comma-delimited
list in the box labeled Expose The Following Shape Data Items To Web
Part Connections.
-
Get Web Drawing URL And Page Name From
. When the Visio Web Access Web Part gets the URL and
page name from the specified web part, it loads the Web Drawing and
displays the named page. The URL must point to a Visio file that can be
rendered by Visio Services. The page name must be formatted as it
appears in the pages list of the Visio diagram.
-
Get Shapes To Highlight From
. When the specified web part sends the name of a
shape, that shape is highlighted in the diagram. The web part can send
a list of names to highlight as a comma-delimited list without spaces
(for example, Shape1, Shape2, and Shape3), as well as specifying the highlight color as a separate parameter.
-
Get Filter Results From
. The connected web part must contain a SharePoint list
that is being used as a data source for the diagram. When the
SharePoint list is filtered, the diagram highlights the shapes that
correspond to visible results in the filtered SharePoint list. The
diagram must be connected to the SharePoint list that the connected web
part is displaying.
-
Get Shape To View From
. When the specified web part sends the name of a
shape, the diagram view zooms and centers on that shape. You can also
specify the zoom percentage as a separate parameter.
