Windows Phone 8 Apps : Calendar (part 3) - Appointments

12/15/2014 3:18:04 AM

Appointments

The Calendar app enables you to create appointments. An appointment is essentially a scheduled event for which you want to be reminded. When you create an appointment using the Calendar app, the appointment can be synchronized to the calendar that is associated with your E-mail mailbox.

Creating an Appointment

You can add an appointment to the calendar from the Day view or Agenda View screen by completing the following steps:

1. Tap the Add Appointment icon.

2. Tap the subject field to enter a name for the appointment.

3. Tap the Location field to indicate where the appointment takes place.

4. Tap Calendar to choose in which of your available calendars you want to log the appointment.

5. Tap the date and time fields located under When to change when the appointment takes place.

6. Tap the How Long field to set the anticipated duration of the appointment.

7. Tap the Save button to log the appointment in the selected calendar. (You can also cancel the appointment by tapping the Cancel button.)

>>>Go Further: Adding Additional Detail

When you create a new appointment, you have the option to supply some additional details that are geared more toward business users. To do so, begin creating a new appointment and then flick up on the screen to scroll up and reveal the More Details button. These extra details are available:

Reminder: Specify when you want your phone to remind you of an upcoming appointment.

Occurs: By default, appointments occur only once, but you have the option to set up a recurring appointment.

Status: Specify how you want your status to display to those with whom you have shared your calendar.

Attendees: Invite someone to a meeting here.

Private: Select this checkbox to block people with whom you have shared your calendar from viewing the appointment details.

Notes: Enter additional required information about the appointment.

It’s Not All Good: Limited Recurrence Options

Even though the phone allows you to create recurring appointments, the recurrence options are somewhat limited. For example, even though you can set an appointment to recur on the 10th of every month or on every Saturday, there is no way to set a custom recurrence schedule. For example, you can’t create a recurring appointment for the second Tuesday of each month.
