Understanding Appointment Status
When you create a new appointment, one of the
options that you can set (after tapping the More Details button) is the
appointment’s status. When you set an appointment’s status, you are
actually configuring your free/busy information for the block of time
the appointment occupies.
When you create an appointment, Windows
automatically sets the status for the corresponding block of time to
Busy. That way, if someone looks at your shared calendar or tries to
schedule a meeting with you, that person will see that you are busy at
that time. Although Busy is usually an appropriate status, you have
four status options:
Free: Even though an appointment is on your calendar, it isn’t important, and you can be available at that time, if necessary.
Tentative: The appointment has not yet been confirmed.
Busy: The appointment is a firm commitment, and you are unavailable during that time slot.
Out of the Office: This option is most appropriate when you are on vacation or you are traveling for business.
Creating a Meeting
Windows Phone 8’s Calendar app contains
native functionality for creating meetings, in which you pick people
from your contacts to invite. If you want to schedule a meeting, open a
new appointment in Calendar, enter the baseline information covered in
the section :
1. Tap the More Details button.
2. Tap the Add Someone button.
The Calendar differentiates between
required and optional attendees for a meeting. For required attendees,
tap the Add Someone button, located in the Required section.
3. Tap the name of the
person you want to invite as a required attendee. If you have
additional required attendees, tap the Add Someone icon again and
choose the attendees.
4. If you want to
invite any optional attendees, tap the Add Someone icon found in the
Optional section, and select them from your contacts the same way you
did for the required attendees.
Meeting Options
Although the app doesn’t offer all the
options of the full-blown version of Outlook, such as automatically
searching attendees’ calendars for a meeting time that works for
everyone, the phone has the basics covered.
5. Tap the Done icon.
6. Tap the Save icon.
