As you probably expect, the Calendar
app is designed to help you keep track of your daily activities. In
addition, you can use this app to create and manage meetings in much
the same way you can through Microsoft Outlook. In fact, the Calendar
app can be synchronized with the calendar associated with your E-mail
account. If you have multiple E-mail accounts, the Calendar app can
even display an aggregate view of all your different calendars.
The calendar is accessible directly from the
Start screen. If it’s pinned there, you can, of course, access the
Calendar app by pressing the Start button and tapping the Calendar
tile. The Calendar is also accessible from the Apps list.
If you have the Calendar app on your Start
screen at a medium or large size, the Live Tile displays the next
appointment on your phone’s Start screen.
When you launch the Calendar app, you have
access to all parts of your included calendars, including agenda items,
to-do lists, the monthly calendar view, and so on.
Calendar Views
The Calendar opens to Day view, which
displays all your appointments for today. To see different calendar
views, flick left or right on the current view.
From Day view, you can scroll the screen up or down to see previous or future days.
Day view contains several elements:
A. The current time: Shows the current time.
B. The view: Flick the view to switch among Agenda, To-Do, and Day views.
C. Your appointments: Tap an appointment to see it in more detail.
D. Today’s date: This icon shows today’s date, and you can tap it to quickly return to today if you have scrolled the calendar to another date.
E. The New icon: Tap this icon to create a new appointment.
F. The Month icon: Tap this icon to view the calendar in Month view.
G. The menu icon: Flick this icon upward to access the calendar settings.
If you swipe to the left
where Day view is highlighted, you can see Agenda view, which displays
your upcoming appointments. What makes Agenda view different from Day
view is that all appointments are displayed sequentially on a single
screen instead of being displayed in a more traditional calendar format.
Agenda view contains several elements:
A. Shows the current time.
B. Flick the view to switch among Agenda, To-Do, and Day views.
C. Confirmation that this is today’s agenda.
D. The time of the next appointment.
E. The name of the appointment.
F. The appointment’s scheduled duration.
G. Your availability is color-coded to reflect your appointment status. Availability is discussed later in this chapter.
H. Today icon, which displays the current date. When you tap this icon, it returns you to today on the calendar.
I. The New icon. Tap this icon to create an additional appointment.
J. The Month icon. Tap this icon to access Month view.
K. The Menu icon. Flick this icon upward to access the calendar settings.
To-Do view enables you to view your task list (your to-do list). To-Do view includes several elements:
A. The current time
B. The currently selected view
C. The task name
D. The task details
E. The priority flag
F. The New button
G. The Select button
H. The menu icon
What’s the Difference
To-Do view displays your task list.
Tasks are different from calendar appointments: Items that appear on
your calendar don’t usually appear on the task list.
